Depart Perth City via Great Eastern Highway and journey up the Darling scarp to the Perth Hills.
Start in Mundaring take time take the time to collect maps of the area and information for your day from the Mundaring Visitor Centre.
From here journey to the Mundaring Weir, enjoy a peaceful walk along the dam wall and through some of the natural bushland. Be sure to read up about the fascinating history of the Weir and its engineering importance for Western Australia.
From Mundaring follow the scenic drive through the Bickley-Carmel Valley, stopping along the way at one of the wineries and cideries for tastings and a delicious gourmet lunch.
Spend the afternoon in Kalamunda visiting the local markets or savouring the fresh local produce. Stop in at the Zig Zag Cultural Centre, home to the Perth Hills Visitor Centre where you can find a range of information on local attractions to help you enjoy your visit to the Perth Hills; a stunning art gallery and the Zig Zag Cafe.
Return to Perth via the Zig Zag Scenic Drive*, a fascinating remnant of an historic railway line offering amazing views of the CBD and the Swan Coastal Plain.
*The Zig Zag Scenic Drive will be temporarily closed to vehicles for 6 months from 30 May 2020. An alternative route for cars from Kalamunda to Perth during this time, is via Kalamunda Road. For more information about the closure click here.
