The 2020 edition of the Perth Comedy Festival brings together some of the world's biggest names alongside homegrown stars in a month-long celebration of laughter with shows at The Regal Theatre (Subiaco), Astor Theatre and Lounge (Mt Lawley), Comedy Lounge (Perth CBD), State Theatre Centre of WA (Northbridge) and Rock Rover (Fremantle).
The Festival runs from 20 April - 17 May and the first shows announced include Irishman Jason Byrne and UK comedy greats Dane Baptiste, Jamali Maddix and Stephen K Amos who will be returning to perform alongside fellow Englishmen Mark Watson and Alfie Brown who are making their maiden voyages to our shores.
The biggest selling comedian at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Jason Byrne, will perform his brand new show "Wrecked but Ready", which promises to be a festival highlight from the man often referred to as the King of Live Comedy.
Dane Baptiste made comedy history in 2014 as the first black British act to be nominated for a Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and following that has had incredible success both at home and abroad. He launches his brand new show “The Chocolate Chip” in 2020 with performances at the Comedy Lounge late April.
Critically acclaimed comedian and host of Vice's Hate Thy Neighbour and Channel 4's Adventures in Futureland, Jamali Maddix's new show reflects on tales from the front line of social change and uncomfortable home truths.
On a mission to bring about world peace, or at least bring an evening of peace, Stephen K Amos is a familiar face to the comedy circuit and takes on the everyday with infectious charm with his new show "Everyman".
According to the life expectancy calculator, Mark Watson is halfway through his life and will be taking an audit on his time on earth with "This Can’t Be It" which premieres in his spiritual home, Australia. Fellow Englishman Alfie Brown is a room distilling comedian who’s work is described as loving, dangerous, inquisitive and disgusting. Both first timers to the Perth Comedy Festival and not to be missed.
Across our pond, one of the fastest rising stars in New Zealand comedy, Melanie Bracewell, is another international making her first performance in P-town with her show "The Rumours Are True" guaranteed to leave you in stitches, whilst Australia's favourite Venezuelan comedian who now calls Melbourne his home, Ivan Aristegueta, is set to return delivering Latino inspired laughs.
Aussie's Aaron Gocsy Gocs, Aaron Chen, Alex Williamson, The Chaser's Andrew Hansen, Becky Lucas, Triple J's Gen Fricker, Harley Breen, Heath Franklin's Chopper, Luke Heggie, Matt Okine, Nazeem Hussain, Nick Cody and Rosie Waterland round out this first announcement.
The ever-popular Perth Comedy Festival Gala is set for Wednesday 22 & 29 April at The Regal Theatre in Subiaco; the perfect stand-up sampler, the Gala presents the unique chance to see emerging and established comedians on the one bill and tickets are currently on sale.
