The winter festival doors are as wide as Fremantle's harbour. Come experience a range of events - music, dance, installations, rituals, film and more - that connect you with the wild. The Fremantle Festivals team are so grateful to be able to present this program in July with all the amazing artists and community.
Each night of Sunset Pitches is a different contemplation of our place on the Indian Ocean – raw sets, new collaborations, acoustic songs in first languages, innovative works for artists and audiences. Farewell the day at 5:45pm and welcome each new glittery night over the dark harbour.
Soak & Steam
Soak, the outdoor elemental experience with a difference returns bringing the comforts of a hot bath in winters cold. You are invited to submerge, unwind and watch the world go by in Fremantle's glorious coastal landscape. This year to extend the options for wild immersion we introduce the mobile sauna, Steam! Steam is inspired by travel stories, rugged landscapes and European naturist traditions.
Epic Dance is a visual and physical celebration of the dance history of Fremantle. Embracing First Nation's cultural dance to Dance Hall to contemporary dance. EPIC DANCE celebrates cultural forms across all dance genres. Cultural leaders, digital producers, community members and choreographers join a mass collaboration that finds its rhythm as a shared experience.
From the creators of multi-award winning YUCK Circus comes a party fit for a pop-up tent. Expect a wild time reminiscent of the dance floor cardio you never knew you needed, and the 3am stagger home you couldn't avoid. Come along for a riot of comedy, high-flying acrobatics, and trashy dancing, but drink plenty of water, it's gonna get sweaty.
Stories of Walyalup are unveiled through the voices and visual projections of local First Nations performers, singers, musicians and visual artists, performances traversing the wild mysteries embedded in the season of Makuru. Stories are the heart of this powerful, joyful and creative connection project.
Deep Winter is a visual arts exhibition and installation created by leading West Australian visual artists – Katrina Barber, Greg Barr, Mathew Clarke, Jane Ryan and Amanda White. Deep Winter is a season full of dark nights when shining stars contrast with the black and blue sky. Curated by Kate Leslie and Susie Waller.
The Future Treasures event features full tilt production and fierce young bands from local high schools Seton College, John Curtin College of the Arts, CBC Fremantle and Fremantle College, with sensational WAM Award winners BEXX headlining.
Deadly Denim x Funk n Soul 97 - Runway Event
Generating its own voltage this sensational and high energy First Nations Fashion event celebrates local designers Tia Semi - Funk N Soul 97 and Rebecca Rickard - Deadly Denim. Showcasing Aboriginal, Maori and Pacific Islander culture through fashion and dance this runway event includes collections from both internationally showcased and local emerging designers.
