As one of Western Australia’s premier destinations, The Perth Mint offers a unique combination of attractions, exhibits and demonstrations which enable visitors to experience the magic, allure and wonder of gold.
It’s world-class Gold Exhibition brings the history of Western Australian gold and The Perth Mint to life. Multimedia displays, aged artefacts and historic imagery form the backdrop to a wealth of pure gold exhibits. Visitors will learn of the gold mining legends and events that have shaped the state as well as those which continue to contribute to its prosperity.
The highlight of the exhibition is the Guinness World Record holding Australian Kangaroo One Tonne Gold Coin, the largest coin in the world! This monumental centrepiece, valued at more than AUD 50 million, is showcased in all its golden glory on a revolving platform.
Visitors can also view Australia’s most dazzling display of natural gold nuggets, including the second largest natural nugget in existence; watch molten gold being poured to form a gleaming solid bar in the original 1899 melting house; handle a real gold bar; and much more!
Those eager for an immersive experience can purchase a ticket to the Mine to Mint day tour, a joint offering from The Perth Mint, Newmont Australia and Go West Tours. The one-of-a kind daytrip takes guests to Australia’s largest operating gold mine, the Newmont Boddington Gold Mine, where they can witness firsthand the gold mining process, rarely revealed to the public. They then journey back to The Perth Mint, Australia’s oldest operating mint, to watch the metal be transformed before their eyes.
The Perth Mint Shop offers an extensive range of fine jewellery, collector coins, natural gold nuggets and exclusive giftware. An authorised stockist of luxury Australian brands including Argyle Pink Diamonds, Ellendale Yellow Diamonds and Allure South Sea Pearls, it also carries Von Treskow, Coinwatch, Allegria Designs, Guess Jewellery and many others.
