Make Christmas shopping fun this year at Perth Makers Market, and take home unique gifts for everyone.
Enjoy returning to a simple, joyful Christmas shopping experience, browsing for gifts while the kids play, chatting to stallholders, and getting together for some delicious food and live music.
Perth Makers Market is dedicated to creating spaces for WA artists, artisans and craftspeople to sell their exquisite hand-crafted wares directly to you.
This year, their Perth Christmas markets conclude on 16 December in Applecross, with more than 150 stalls selling a huge range of imaginative ceramics, woodwork, glassware, textiles, fashion, jewellery, beauty products, gourmet foods, wines, and more.
The Applecross Christmas market will be held at Heathcote Cultural Precinct from 9.30am to 3.30pm. This spot has gorgeous panoramic views across the Swan River and a pirate ship kids' playground. Artists' studios and the Art Gallery and Museum will all be open on the day. Dogs aren't allowed here, but you'll find some great doggie treats and gifts at the markets.
Along with the makers' stalls, there will be kids' activities and a visit from Santa himself. Food vans include Japanese, Indian and French cuisine and some delicious ice creams. Alternatively, bring a picnic, or if you prefer a sit-down meal, book ahead for a table in the fabulous BWG Steakhouse.
Here's a selection from the long list of stalls to tempt you along to one of the best Christmas markets in Perth while supporting our talented creatives and local industries.
Woodworks, Ceramics and Textiles
This is one Perth Christmas market that presents a great choice of original homewares, offered by the creatives themselves, so you can enjoy a fascinating chat about their craft and inspirations.
Cellardoor Creations is one worth hunting down. Although the name suggests wine-making, in fact this husband and wife team repurpose aged French oak wine barrels to create stunning woodworks for the home.
The oak is already 200 years old when it is crafted into barrels, which then spend a number of years soaking in the wine they store. This history, combined with amazing skill, produces unique items with beautiful colouring.
Ceramics are a good choice for an attractive gift that can be used every day. Among the choices at Perth Makers Market will be LN Ceramics, offering some fresh, bold designs from a mix of wheel thrown and hand built stoneware clay.
Using techniques known only to LN Ceramics, each piece is glazed and fired to produce a perfect finish. You're bound to find a gift from among their kitchenware, plant pots, vases and candle holders.
Those already familiar with Ellume Life ethical textile range will be delighted to know they will be bringing their wares to the Applecross Christmas Market.
Increasingly, shoppers want to know the history behind a product, to make sure it has been ethically sourced and made, to protect the environment and those working in the creative industries.
Ellume's gorgeous Perth-made textiles are inspired by the natural environment and printed by hand, using ecologically sound inks on sustainable hemp or organic cotton. Wherever possible, materials are derived from sustainable production methods where workers are treated fairly. Their range of paper gifts produced by fair trade artisans in Bangladesh is also available in the Heathcote Gallery Shop.
Gifts from Local Artists
Working to the same ideal of sustainability, artists at Perth Makers Market offer some stunning gifts created using environmentally sustainable techniques.
By repurposing driftwood, seaglass, shells and coral, Driftwood Elements adds beads, stones and pearls to create some delightful mobiles and sun catchers. Beads are either from upcycled jewellery or created using sustainable methods. You'll find some fabulous Christmas gift ideas at their stall.
WA artist Olivia Monte creates original gifts and decorations by reusing existing materials. Olivia learnt the technique of wood burning from her grandfather, and now uses it to create delightful artworks inspired by plants and flowers. She will bring these and other works, such as hand painted journals and upcycled plant pots, to the Applecross Christmas market.
For other unusual gift ideas at Perth Makers Market, don't miss Paper Rich cute miniature paper sculptures, gorgeous scarves from Seahorse Silks, and Laura Andre's stunning abstract prints. Caspa Creations will take care of your Christmas cards this year. Each lovingly hand-crafted card is unique, and blank for your personal message.
No Perth Christmas market would be complete without a stunning collection of jewellery, and this one is no exception.
You'll find pretty, youthful items at Flix Handcrafted Jewellery. Creator Felicity Mines uses Murano glass, Czech lampwork, Swarovski crystal and gems, with sterling silver and rolled gold. Especially lovely are her made-to-fit anklets and barefoot 'sandals', ideal for beach weddings. Her latest range is inspired by the colours of Australia's south west.
Brett Barker of IJewellery regards each piece of his gold and silver jewellery as a scultpure. Find him at the Applecross Christmas market for your chance to buy from an established Fremantle designer. Brett has made cufflinks for the Duke of Edinburgh and pendants for Barack Obama's daughters, so you're in good company.
For more feminine, vintage style, statement jewellery, head to the French Attic stall. Collage artist Merelle Perrozzi creates exquisite pieces inspired by her art and delicious colours - fabulous Christmas presents for the stylish women in your life!
French Attic also sells prints and greetings cards - another original option for your Christmas card mail-out this year.
Natural Skin Products
Perth Christmas markets are offering some quality handmade skin products this year. Look for HarEanne, a range inspired by essential oils, and Witherspoons additive-free skin care.
HarEanne was brought into being by Jenny Newfield, who wholeheartedly believes in natural skin care. After finding nothing to relieve her daughter's sore lips, she created her own cream from essential oils and the condition soon healed.
Now HarEanne organic handmade skin care products are available to everyone. They are ideal for sensitive skin, containing no preservatives or chemicals. Find the stall at Perth Makers Market and try for yourself.
Witherspoons products are also free of preservatives and harmful additives. Their natural skin care range is created from oils, botanicals and dry ingredients that provide nutrients and antioxidants.
Best known for their Working Hands scrub, the full range of moisturisers, cleansers and healing products is worth exploring. There's a men's range too - another good gift idea. Drop by the Witherspoons stall at the Applecross Christmas market to sample their fabulous products.
The Applecross Christmas market is ideal for a family day out, with kids' activities and playground, tasty food and the chance to see the real Santa Claus!
Don't miss the Born to Sparkle stall too. Kids will love their glitter tattoos and face makeup, which can last for up to seven days.
Gift ideas for kids include Upsy and Moo Science Kits, ideal for 4-year-olds and up. You'll find yourself joining the kids on Christmas Day to turn your phone into a microscope, make slush and slime, create a doodlebot or blow up the Christmas balloons without using your breath. Each kit contains simple step-by-step instructions.
Lovebug Designs will also join Perth Makers Market to showcase their range of toys and accessories for young children. You'll love their Mini Monster soft toys, cushions, mats and bug bags. Only a few items are made out of each fabric design, so you're not likely to see your Mini Monster anywhere else!
Artisan Food Products
Western Australia is known for its huge range of locally made gourmet food and wine, and Perth Christmas markets are a great opportunity to explore them.
An unusual idea to look for at the Applecross Christmas market comes from Pickld. Inspired by nine generations of family recipes, Suda Nathan has created a range of vegetarian meals with a special blend of seasonings, all handmade in Perth using traditional methods. The blend includes nutritious ingredients like chia seeds, turmeric and lentils. Just add vegies!
Family owned Zeezbeez sells raw handmade honey from their own bees, as well as honey-based soaps, lip balm and beeswax food wrapping. They can tell you all about how to set up your own hive too!
Visiting the Perth Makers Market from Boyup Brook is Dinninup Grove, bringing their home-produced olive oils, table olives and olive oil skin products. Other delicious items include dukkah, tapenades and sauces.
Also look out for The Tea Crowd's range of tasty teas, mouth-watering treats from Baked by Erica, and Neilson Estate Wines.
Food Trucks at Applecross Christmas Market
Adding more temptation to the gift stalls are the aromatic food trucks you'll find at the Applecross Christmas market. Here's just a taster:

Persia's Pantry sells lovingly homemade savoury and sweet snacks, served on gilded platters with rose petals, Persian style.
