There’s a lot happening in the City of Armadale right now! Spring is upon us, and the Perth Hills are abuzz with things to do, places to go and experiences to be had.
As a hub of the region, Armadale is the focus of activity, with live music, art workshops and exhibitions, food, wine and markets, trails and walks.
To help you decide what to do in Armadale this spring, all these experiences have been gathered together in a packed programme running until the end of November. “Spring into Armadale” is a festival of events in the Armadale and wider Perth Hills region, with something for absolutely everyone.

Here are just some of the highlights from over 60 spring events in Armadale this year.
Springtime at Araluen
18 August - 24 September
Every trip to the City of Armadale should begin with Araluen Botanic Park, and spring is the time to go, when fields of tulips are blooming across the beautifully landscaped park. Yates Springtime at Araluen features more than 145,000 tulips, bringing visitors from far and wide to witness the spectacle. The 14 hectares of gardens bloom with a huge variety of plants spread amongst grassy picnic areas and streams, surrounded by 59 hectares of bushland with walk trails to keep flora fans happy for hours. Take a train ride to explore further, and enjoy the many pop up food stalls along the way.
Waterfalls, Wildflowers and Wildlife
Every Monday August to November
This one-day experience must be booked in advance. Tour guides will take you to the most beautiful landscapes of waterfalls and wildflowers in the Perth Hills region, where you’ll be able to spot native wildlife as you walk through the bush. There are a number of guided walks and hikes offered among the spring events in Armadale, with various starting points. Check the full programme for details and how to book.
Acoustic Moon Hike
This hike is one of the most unusual events in Armadale this spring, timed to coincide with the full moon. Meet at Mt Cooke Pine Plantation and walk with your guide up the highest peak in the Perth Hills as the sun sets. Then relax to the sounds of GypsyLou in a stunning, rugged landscape under the light of the moon. Check the programme for booking details.
Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August - November
If you can’t get enough of live acoustic music, you’ll find it every weekend in the city of Armadale at Avocados Cafe, just a short drive from the town centre. Surrounded by peaceful bushland, on the banks of the Canning River, this pet friendly venue has indoor and outdoor seating, and a fresh, carefully crafted menu. Make a weekend of it and book one of their chalets.
Organ and Violin Concert
For some exquisite classical music, enter Kelmscott’s Anglican Church to hear one of the world’s greatest organists play the 18th century chamber organ. Dr Joseph Nolan will be accompanied by internationally acclaimed violinist Laurence Jackson, who will play a 19th century instrument in what promises to be an uplifting duo performance by two of the world’s most skilled musicians.

Open Studio Arts Trail
Friday to Sunday, 7-9, 14-16, 21-23 September
For those wondering what to do in Armadale that will satisfy their love of art, follow this arts trail. You’ll be able to uncover the work of local Armadale Perth Hills artists as they welcome spring by opening their private studios for 3 weekends. See how these talented creatives produce their stunning paintings, textiles, ceramics, sculptures and more, using some innovative techniques.
Arts and Awards Exhibition
An annual event in Armadale not to be missed is the Society of Artists Art and Awards Exhibition. This year, there will be more than 200 works on display, with the chance to see artists and work and purchase artworks to take home.
Darlington Arts Festival
This festival of arts and crafts, in the delightful Perth Hills town of Darlington, has art exhibitions, workshops and market stalls selling artisan, craft and cottage industry products. Designed to appeal to the whole family, the festival has a youthful energy with nonstop entertainment and things to do.
Perth Hills Artisan Markets
15 September and 25 November
What list of spring events in Armadale and Perth Hills is complete without indulging in some local produce and gourmet food products? These markets, at Helena College, Glen Forrest, contain everything you could want - locally made jam, sweet treats, olive oil and local fresh food, with a backdrop of local musicians and stunning countryside.
Join this fascinating morning session in Gosnells for a gold coin donation, to find out how common weeds and plants can become a part of your daily diet. Learn how to turn your garden into your pantry, and taste some of the food nature provides for free!
Love avocados? This is one event in Armadale you mustn’t miss - 2 full days devoted to this delicious, versatile fruit, in the beautiful setting of Araluen Botanic Park. Discover avocado products, gardening hints and recipes, and enjoy more live musical entertainment.

Sundays at Rocksgate
Every Sunday, August to November
Rocksgate Winery, in the Bedfordale Hills, is serving up wood fired pizza with home grown herbs accompanied by its boutique wines every Sunday afternoon. Book ahead to make sure you don’t miss out!
Millbrook Winery Spring Lunch
To enjoy one of the truly special spring events in the Armadale Perth Hills region, book your place at the Millbrook Winery Spring Lunch table. Millbrook is worth a visit just to soak up the serene setting on the banks of the Serpentine River, particularly stunning in spring. This event is a fabulous way to experience the wines and delicious food, using home grown produce, and join a winery tour and tasting into the bargain.
Spring is, of course, Oktoberfest time in the southern hemisphere, so this German festival has been included in the programme of spring events in Armadale. Head to the Village Green for German themed food and music from 1.00pm til late.
1 Day Yoga Retreat

Highland Gathering & Perth Kilt Run
Another spring event in Armadale not to be missed! Australia’s only fun run in a kilt, held at Minnawarra Park, is open for registrations. Stay and enjoy the medieval fair showcasing all things Scottish, including highland dancing, bagpipe competitions, haggis tasting and a chance to meet some West Highland and Scottish Terriers as they show off their agility skills.
Willy Wonka Gala Day
Kelmscott craft shop Cottonwool Creations will be setting up market stalls for this Willy Wonka themed day of fun and action. Bring the kids and get stuck into some chocolate, sweet treats and a cup of coffee, enjoy the Willy Wonka display and have your photo taken with Dud the Bear.
