School holidays are back again, and it's time to have family fun!
If you're wondering how to best enjoy the last warm days before winter sets in, and make special memories (while keeping the kids entertained screen-free) then you've come to the right place! There's so much to see and do in Perth the school holidays, and we’re thrilled as usual to be your trusty guide in kid-friendly Perth fun.

Scitech is exploring the wonderful world of weather! Enjoy a fun day out filled with curious science experiences for all ages (mum and dad included), learning the science and stories behind the weather until 18 April. Discover the ingredients for fire in A Perfect Firestorm, join Scitech's puppets on the big stage for One Fine Day. Plus, splash around in Discoverland, blast sky high in the Planetarium, and experience the changing Noongar seasons in the stunning Banksia woodland exhibit. No matter what the weather’s like outside, step into Scitech for a perfect rainy-day (or sunshiny-day!) activity.
Next up, Dinosaurs are roaming the recently reopened WA Museum Boola Bardip as the Museum welcomes Erth's Dinosaur Zoo until 18 April. Meet an amazing array of prehistoric creatures, from baby dinosaurs to some of the largest carnivores and herbivores that have ever walked the planet. No matter how big or small, Erth's internationally renowned puppeteers bring these dinosaurs to life with technical wizardry and beautiful storytelling.
The artsy folks at the Art Gallery of WA (AGWA) also have some very exciting family-friendly school holiday activities in store each day until 18 April. The Family Guided Tours are just-right to spark your children's creative muses; and there's excitingly playful and interactive workshops themed on Horizontal Geometries and 3D relief sculpture. Finally, the Family Drawing Studio is a lovely quiet space for the whole family to get creative together - draw, dream, chat and imagine!
In the mood for some buzz and excitement? If your kids love to game (and for that matter, if you do!), you won't want to miss Free to Play Perth from 3 - 5 April; grab a controller and reach a new high score at the City's pop up arcade and pop culture hub. You'll find VR, retro pinball, and plenty more!
If you're in the mood for magic and fantasy, acclaimed family-friendly industrial-chic restaurant Ivy & Jack on Hay have the ultimate activity to entertain your kids: a Fantasy Dress Up Party on 13 April! Whether you are a princess, pirate, fairy or superhero, dress as your favourite character and hang out with their super special guest visitors. There will also be movies on the big screen, games and colouring-in packs, prizes for the best-dressed character and more. Parents, sit back and relax and let the special visitors at Ivy & Jack keep the kids busy and entertained!
For another great restaurant experience to keep the kids busy, head to The Island at Elizabeth Quay for a Kids Pizza Making Class on 7 - 9 and 14 - 16 April. Hosted by The Island's Pizza Maestro, kids will be taken through the whole messy process of pizza making. Stretching, kneading, adding sauce and toppings of their choice, then eating their very own pizza. They'll be giving away one lucky door prize at each class, plus a juice on arrival for the kids and one tea or coffee for the parent/guardian. (Light snacks and additional beverages will be available to purchase). Parents, please stay on site while your kids make their own pizzas without messing up your kitchen at home!
Do the kids love mermaids, fairies and unicorns? At I BELIEVE - Mermaids, Fairies and Unicorn on 9 April, you'll find real Mermaids entertaining visitors with their beautiful tails and stories of the sea as they swim around the outdoor aquarium; Eco Fairies entertaining visitors with songs and dances delivering important messages about our oceans; and real Unicorns inspiring children to believe! It’s a perfect event for fans of the magical and fantastical, held at AQWA in Hillarys, a seaside suburb twenty minutes north of Perth. And because science is magic that works, check out AQWA's new 3-hour kids program, Marine Scientist for a Day from 13 - 15 April - it's perfect for kids that are passionate about marine animals and conservation. This behind-the-scenes tour includes lunch, animal feeding, a glass bottom boat adventure, a slime experiment and heaps more!
The City of Wanneroo has plenty of fab things planned for their school holiday program too, available daily until 18 April; from laser tag and skate park excursions, to yummy autumn cooking, and even getting up close with some amazing birds of prey. There's also a wide variety of sports camps and clinics at Kingsway Indoor Stadium, and plenty of fun activities in the City libraries as well. And while you're here, why not pop into the Wanneroo Botanic Gardens for some tasty nosh at Leapfrogs, followed by a beautiful botanic walk and maybe even some mini-golf? Or for thrill-seeking youngsters, you don't have to head to the Elizabeth City Fun Fair to have a barrel of fun: the Kids Big Carnival, 10 - 13 April, at the Wanneroo Showgrounds is packed full of carnival fun and games, rides, showbags and more.
Next up, the usually quiet suburb of Nollamara in the City of Stirling, has exciting things afoot with the arrival of the Gnalla Pop-up Plaza, at Nollamara Shopping Centre until the end of June. Kick off Youth Week with a free soccer clinic on 9 April, where youth aged 10-25 can scrub up their soccer skills with Mark Lee from Pro Football Training; and wrap up Youth Week with Beat the Drum percussion workshops on 16 April, by Akwaaba African Drumming.
As always, Fremantle pull out all the stops when it comes to school holiday entertainment. These school holidays, take the kids to the WA Maritime Museum and explore the fascinating world of Vikings with some fun and educational Viking themed activities daily until 18 April and the WA Shipwrecks Museum has a quirky Pirate themed activities daily including the hilarious Riddled with Rats trail for kids to explore, as well as a pirate-themed choose your own adventure story.
Fremantle Arts Centre is running school holiday art courses until 16 April for younger kids, older kids and teenagers including creative photography, cartooning, bookbinding, clay modelling, and more. There's also two very special school holiday tours for the kids at the award-winning UNESCO-listed Fremantle Prison: Escape! (running Wednesdays and Fridays until 16 April) and Locked Up! (running on 8, 12 & 15 April).
