    Celebrate the Queen's Birthday with a long weekend from
    23 - 25 September with some fantastic activities and events for families, foodies, cultural buffs and nature lovers.

    For families

    The long weekend marks the start of the WA school holidays, which means there will be plenty on offer for families. Kids can explore the marvellous world of ancient Rome at the WA Maritime Museum, cuddle baby animals at the Fremantle Markets, become a forensic scientist at Scitech, and enjoy gooey fun with slime at AQWA. There are also some great activities to find in the city, including an 80's style chill zone, dinosaur mask making, free face painting and hip hop dance classes - find out more.

    Perth's favourite theme park, Adventure World, will be celebrating their first weekend open, and with the dedicated kids zone Dragon's Kingdom, the ever popular Kahuna Falls and endless lawn to stretch out on, it's the perfect place to hang out. Plus, you can give their brand new ride, Goliath a go!

    Perth's biggest community event, the IGA Perth Royal Show also starts this weekend. As well as all your favourite rides and showbags families can get up close to their favourite animals, explore the many agricultural pavilions and enjoy plenty of live entertainment.

    Prepare for a close encounter with the most extraordinary creatures to ever walk the earth. Featuring more than 23 moving, life-size animatronic models of the Cretaceous period (145-66 million years ago), Dinosaur Discovery: Lost Creatures of the Cretaceous is like nothing you've ever experienced!

    Beer & Beef Festival

    For foodies

    The Beer & Beef Festival returns bigger and better than ever with more than 100 different drops from over 20 local, national and international breweries will be on offer for exclusive tastings and masterclasses - this is one festival you don't want to miss!

    Do you love cycling? Do you love wine? Combine the two with Harris Organic Wines' Memorial Avenue Wineries Bike Ride this weekend. Pick up a bicycle from Harris Organic Wines, or bring your own, and cycle your way around the five wineries on Memorial Avenue - there is plenty to see! Or head over to Faber Vineyard to celebrate their 20th birthday with wine masterclasses, free tastings, barrel tastings and a variety of food options.

    Love a good cocktail? Join James Connolly and the bar team at Long Chim at The State Buildings for the unveiling of their exciting new spring cocktail menu on Saturday from 3 - 5pm. House-wine and Singhas will be on free-flow until 5pm and the Long Chim DJ will be mixing tunes until 9pm.

    For cultural buffs

    The WA Maritime Museum's much aniticipated new exhibit Escape from Pompeii: The Untold Roman Rescue opens on this Friday. Explore the disaster that unfolded as a result of the eruption and learn how the control of the Mediterranean gave the Roman Empire unprecedented prosperity, through an amazing array of artefacts and stories from Pompeii and Herculaneum.

    If you are a lover of film or theatre, check out what's on this weekend for the Lavazza Italian Film Festiva at Cinema Paradiso, Northbridge and Luna on SX, Fremantle featuring best new cinema from Italy or listen to the Perth Symphonic Chorus perform Brahms' German Requiem - considered to be one of the finest marriages between music and text ever written - at the Perth Concert Hall.

    Head down Perth's State Theatre Courtyard for an afternoon of bollywood dancing workshops for 2017 Confluence: Festival of India.

    For sport enthusiasts

    Head down to Elizabeth Quay and the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre this weekend for the Perth International Boat Show! New boat displays will be featured as well as exciting attractions, entertainment and activities for the whole family including jet ski rides, a daily sailing regatta on the Swan River, fishing competitions and seafood cooking demos.

    The 2017 TABtouch Toodyay Picnic Race Day, will be held at the Toodyay Racecourse on Saturday. Enjoy Fashions on the Field, Myles Wilson Dash for Cash, live music, free kid's entertainment, food stalls and more to be announced! Gates open at 11am, racing starts at 12pm and gates close at 8pm.

    If you're into machinery, you can't miss the The Vintage Machinery Rally in Waroona. This one-day event attracts exhibitors and enthusiasts from across WA to showcase working vintage stationary engines, vintage tractors, motor bikes, cars, old tools, arts, crafts, quilting, weaving, spinning and old sewing machines.

    For nature lovers

    Spring also means wildflowers are in bloom, and this season is proving to be one the best yet. You can see the biggest display of wildflowers in Kings Park, or if you want to head out of the city why not travel to the Perth Hills, Avon Valley or Peel Region and head out along a wildlifer trail.

    Get up close to Perth's wildlife on whale watching adventure or cruise around Penguin Island in Rockingham to see dolphins, little penguins and sea lions.
