Burswood Park

Location:
Burswood Complex.

Located on the doorstep of the city alongside the beautiful Swan River, families are encouraged to relax and enjoy the jogging and cycling trails, riverside walks and many picnic spots within the stunning parks and gardens.

Hyde Park

Location: Corner Vincent, William, Glendower and Throssell Streets, Perth.

One of the most picturesque parks in Perth; a popular location for wedding photos. The park is has some lovely walking paths, pretty gazebos, large overhanging trees and an ornamental lake. There are BBQ facilities, expanses of green grass, lots of shade and children’s play areas, making it a perfect location for the whole family.

Kings Park

Location: Fraser Avenue, Perth. Right next to the city centre.

The total area of the Park is 406 hectares, with sweeping grasslands, natural bushland, memorial parks, childrens playgrounds and BBQ facilities, plus an outdoor cinema and a series of events throughout summer. The Botanic Gardens are also situated in Kings Park and provide a beautiful setting for a picnic. Be sure to check out the Federation Tree Top Walkway.

Lake Monger Reserve

Location: Corner of Powis Street & Lake Monger Drive, Wembley. 10 minutes north of Perth CBD.

A picturesque lake surrounded by green parklands and filled with picnic areas, childrens playgrounds and an abundance of bird life. Lights are available at barbecue locations for night use and there are also lights in certain locations around the perimeter path.

Matilda Bay

Location: Hackett Drive, Nedlands. 5 minutes from Perth along the Swan River.

The stunning back drop of the Swan River, combined with sheltered nature of the Matilda Bay Reserve, make it a very popular site for picnics. Sheltered grassed areas, BBQ facilities, boat ramps, children’s play areas and safe river beaches make it a beautiful setting.

Point Walter

Location: Point Walter Road, Bicton. 15 minutes drive from Perth city.

Amazing views of Perth and the Swan River and plenty of trees providing shade from the sun as well as safe swimming and excellent fishing. Public barbeque facilities are available as well as a cafe and kiosk. Next door to Point Walter is the Blackwall Reach Reserve, a picturesque area of natural bush ideal for cyclists and walkers. Nearby is a sandbar that snakes out into the river and provides a great walk.

Queens Gardens

Location: On the corner of Nelson Crescent and Plain Street, East Perth.

The main features of the gardens include water lily-filled lakes (the old clay pits), massed displays of flowers and a replica of the Peter Pan statue in Kensington Gardens, London, manicured lawns and a large variety of trees and shrubs. Facilities available include seating, a gazebo area, public toilets, and a drinking fountain. The gardens are enclosed by a wrought iron fence.

South Perth Foreshore

Location: Mill Point Road, South Perth.

With the magnificent Swan River and Perth skyline as its backdrop, the South Perth foreshore is a popular picnic destination. Great pathways around the river, childrens play areas, BBQ’s, shady trees, extensive grassed areas and nearby local shops and restaurants.

Supreme Court Gardens

Location: On the corner of Barrack Street and Riverside Drive, Perth.

Facilities at the Supreme Court Gardens include seating and lighting, public toilets and drinking water. The garden is semi enclosed by mature trees and gardens. Events such as Opera in the Park and Carols by Candlelight are held here in the summer months.

Peppermint Grove Foreshore Reserve

Location: The Esplanade, Peppermint Grove.

Carine Regional Open Space

Location: Beach Road, Carine.

With sports fields and walking trails surrounding two lakes this reserve caters for many members of the community. Facilities include toilets, shelters, drinking fountains, barbeques and a skate park.

Cottesloe Beach

Location: Marine Parade, Cottesloe.

Cottesloe is one of Perth's most popular beaches and attracts thousands of people looking to cool off from the hot summer heat. There are pine trees providing welcome shade from the sun and grassy areas to relax in. Public toilets, changing facilities and showers are available. Stay into the early evening and watch the sky light up with colour as the sun sink into the Indian Ocean.

Mandurah Foreshore

Location: Mandurah Road, Mandurah.

Perry Lakes Reserve

Location: Perry Lakes Drive, Floreat. 10 minutes west of Perth CBD.

Natural bushland, lovely wet lands, grassy areas and plenty of shady trees, BBQ facilities, picnic tables, great walking paths and lights for night time access. Located nearby is Bold Park and the lookout at Reabold Hill, the highest natural point along the coast.

Rockingham Foreshore

Location: Rockingham Road, Rockingham. 35 minutes south of Perth city.

Stretching approximately 4 to 5 kilometres along the Rockingham coastline, directly across from calm and safe beaches you will find well manicured, shady, grassy lawns with free electric bbq's and great childrens playgrounds.

Sorrento Beach

Location: West Coast Hwy, Sorrento. Left of the Hillarys Boat Harbour.

Tom Simpson Park

Location: Oceanside Promenade, Mullaloo.

This public open space is situated right next to the beach, and has toilet and parking facilities, a basketball hoop, barbeques, picnic tables, gazebos and benches, bike racks, showers, drinking fountains, play equipment, public telephone, shade structures, lighting and a dual use path.

Whitfords Nodes Park

Location: Whitfords Avenue, just north of the Hillarys Boat Harbour.

The park has two lookouts with panoramic views accessible by limestone paths, BBQs, picnic tables, play equipment, bike racks, parking and toilet facilities (including disabled), lighting, shade structures and the beach is close by.

Woodman Point

Location: Cockburn Road, Coogee. 5 minutes from Fremantle.

Yanchep National Park

Location: Wanneroo Road, Yanchep. 45 minutes north of Perth’s city centre.

Excellent BBQ and picnic facilities, row boat hire, scenic walk trails, koalas, kangaroos and an abundance of other native animals and plants in one of the state’s oldest national parks. Nestled in tuart and banksia woodlands, the park is home to many different water and bush birds.

Araluen Botanic Park

Location: Croyden Road, Roleystone. 35kms south east of Perth in the Darling Ranges.

Nestled in the deep Jarrah forested valley in the Darling Range, Araluen is a tranquil botanic garden of natural and developed beauty. You will find flowing streams, plenty of grassy areas on which to enjoy a barbecue or picnic and several bush walks.

Avon Valley National Park

Location: Toodyay Road.

A 4800 hectare reserve of natural bushland, with lovely picnic areas and walking trails to the Avon River. The Park is known for a wide variety of birds, wildlife and spectacular scenery across the Avon Valley.

Blackboy Ridge

Location: Chittering Road, Chittering.

With plenty of tables, abundance of shade, great views across the Brockman River Flats and some fabulous walks through the 64 hectare reserve this park is a lovely location for a country picnic. Pack your own lunch or pick up some supplies on the way at one of the local wineries and fresh food outlets.

Gwambygine Park

Location: 10km south of York along the road to Beverley.

It is one of the few reserves along the Avon River offering a riverine floodplain and native bushland with modern public facilities. Gwambygine Park is an ideal picnic spot with free gas barbecues, a children’s playground and other facilities. A boardwalk and viewing tower will take you right to the riverpool and close to nature without disturbing the environment.

John Forrest National Park

Location: Great Eastern Highway, Mundaring. Approximately 30 minutes from Perth.

Quiet pools and gentle waterfalls of Jane Brook flow through Western Australia's oldest gazetted national park. Tearooms, tavern and restaurant, barbecues, picnic areas, toilets, walk trails, horse trails and mountain bike trails.

Lake Leschenaultia

Location: Rosedale Road, Chidlow.

A manmade lake constructed in 1897 for the West Australian Government Railway, to water Steam Engines at the Chidlow Well Station. It is 168 hectares and is a recreation area ideal for family and group outings, plenty of barbeques, sandy beaches, grassed areas, and pleasant and easy walks.

Lane Poole Reserve

Location: South of Dwellingup along the Murray River.

Running through an ancient valley of the Darling Scarp, the Murray River is the largest un- dammed river in the Darling Range and is popular with rafting and canoeing devotees.The river forms a series of rapids, small waterfalls and deep still pools. There are shaded tables, toilets, barbeques, walktrails, lookouts, and picnic areas.

Lesmurdie Falls National Park

Location: Falls Road, Lesmurdie. 5kms from Kalamunda Town Centre.

Lesmurdie Brook flows through this small park, with Lesmurdie Falls tumbling 50 metres over the sheer face of the Darling Scarp. The terrain is steep granite rock, ensuring plenty of vantage points along the walking trails.

Mundaring Community Sculpture Park

Location: Jacoby Street, Mundaring.

Located on the site of the former Mundaring Railway Station. The railway line, without its tracks, still dominates even though the native flora is slowly reclaiming the site. To date, eight Western Australian artists have created sculptures for the park. Great picnic area, BBQs, children's play area, access to walk and cycle trails.

Mundaring Weir

Location: Mundaring Weir Road, Mundaring. 40 minutes east of Perth City.

Situated in an attractive bush setting, Mundaring Weir is one of the world's greatest engineering projects. Completed in 1903, it is the start of the water pipeline that pumps water to agricultural areas and the Kalgoorlie goldfields, some 700 kilometeres in all. There are beautiful landscaped park areas planted with trees from all over the world as well as walk trails, children's play area and BBQs.

Serpentine National Park

Location: Falls Road, off the South West Hwy, approximately one hours drive from Perth.

Situated on the Darling Scarp, the picturesque Serpentine National Park protects more than 4,300 hectares of area and is home to a diverse range of vegetation and wildlife. Serpentine Falls, Serpentine Dam and smaller Pipehead Dam are the perfect places for picnics and all have play areas available, with spectacular views.

Whiteman Park

Location: Lord Street, Whiteman.

Located in picturesque bushland, Whiteman Park covers an area of more than 4 300 hectares with nearly half of this designated as a conservation reserve. The park boasts bushwalking trails, bike/walk paths, Lew Whiteman Collection of antiques, historic tram and train rides, playgrounds, sporting facilities, shops and cafe. There are more than 100 bird species and over 400 native plants within the park.

Bernard Park

Location: Heaton Avenue, Northam.

Situated on the beautiful Avon River in Northam and fringed by soft grassy banks and 100 year old pine trees that provide numerous picturesque shady spots where you can relax, stretch out and enjoy the sights and sounds of the river. The river is also home to an abundance of bird life including the unique and much revered white swans. Barbeques are available free of charge and there are great children’s play facilities.

Canning National Park

Location: Off McNess Drive, Roleystone or Canning Dam Road off Albany Highway.

The major recreation facilities located near Canning National Park are at Canning Dam.
Several Mountain Bike trails run either through the Canning National Park or adjacent State Forest areas. The Munda-Biddi
Mountain Bike trail runs through the National Park. There is plenty of shade even on a hot day and some great walk trails. A stream runs through the area all year round.
