John Forest National Park
John Forest National Park is 28 kilometres east of Perth via the Great Eastern Highway and takes approximately 30 minutes from Perth by car.
John Forest National Park, was established in 1898 as a reserve making it Western Australia's first National Park. The park has excellent recreational facilities including: barbecues, picnic areas, toilets, walk trails, horse trails and mountain bike trails. View the beautiful scenery throughout the park and spend time at Hovea Falls, Jane Brook and the National Park Falls. You will also be able to see a variety of native flora and fauna including: Bungarra Lizards, Honey Possums and New Holland Honeyeaters. John Forrest National Park forms an important part of The Hills Forest.
The Hills Forest Discovery Centre established in 1991, is located in the spectacular Hills Forest and is the home of Nearer to Nature. Nearer to Nature provides the community with unique, enjoyable activities to promote the community’s environmental awareness, knowledge and skills, including the related heritage of Indigenous and European cultures.
The Discovery Centre is only seven kilometres from Mundaring and boasts a magnificent amphitheatre with a stunning backdrop of jarrah and marri forest. The Centre has a Resource Room for presentations and activities. Many spectacular walk trails either pass through or originate from The Hills Forest Discovery Centre, including the world famous Bibbulmun Track. Another alternative track adventure is the Munda Biddi mountain bike trail. The variety of trails and tracks accessible from the Discovery Centre ensures there is a suitable walk for all ages and abilities.
The Discovery Centre has wonderful camping facilities which includes shower and toilet facilities, along with an undercover kitchen, complete with fridge, gas barbecue and picnic tables.
