Animals

 

AQWA

Only 20 minutes north of Perth at Hillarys Boat Harbour, AQWA has samples of marine life from the 12,000 kilometres of Western Australia coastline. There are five distinct regions - Great Southern Coast, Perth Coast, Marmion Marine Park, Shipwreck Coast and Far North. AQWA is Australia’s largest aquarium and underwater tunnel and you will find here the world’s largest collection of Western Australian marine life; beautiful living coral reefs; giant sharks, rays, turtles and playful seals.

Perth Zoo

Only minutes from the city centre in South Perth (also accessible by ferry ride across the Swan River) Perth Zoo has animals from around the globe. You will find the African Zone; Asian Rainforest Zone; Australian Walkabout area; World of Birds and The Nocturnal House. Children can also play in the Variety Playground. With a restaurant and refreshment stands you can spend a whole day here. A must see is when the zoo holds their summer concerts.

Tumbulgum Farm

Only 45 minutes south-west of Perth, Tumbulgum Farm gives children the opportunity to experience life on the farm. You will see sheep mustering on horseback; sheep shearing and whip cracking. Children can take a hay ride or feed the lambs. Tumbulgum also has an audio/visual centre on Aboriginal Culture with performances of music and dance and demonstrations of boomerang and spear throwing.

Caversham Wildlife Park

Only 30 minutes north east from the city, Caversham Wildlife Park is over 4 hectares of bushland and houses more than 2000 animals. You will find koalas, Tasmanian devils, dingoes, emus, casssowary and many more species. You can feed kangaroos, or cuddle a wombat. Caversham Wildlife Park is located within Whiteman Park over 4200 hectares, here you can enjoy the village, early transport museum, bushwalking trails, barbecue’s and picnic areas.

Penguin Island

Only 45 minutes south of Perth off the coast from Rockingham. Penguin Island is in the Shoalwater Marine Park and is home to the largest breeding colony of Little Penguins in WA. The Penguin Experience - Island Discovery Centre allows visitors to see little penguins up close in an environment similar to their natural habitat. Learn about them through feedings, commentaries and displays.

Rockingham dolphins

Only 45 minutes south of Perth, Rockingham dolphins operate tours in the calm clear bays off Rockingham. Swim with wild bottlenose dolphins in their natural environment (all equipment is supplied). Don't worry if you don't want to get in the water, take the Dolphin Watch Tour instead and see the dolphins up close from the viewing platform on the boat.
