Sunset Coast

If there’s one thing that makes Perth stand apart from the rest, it would have to be its glorious beaches. Within 20 minutes drive of the city centre, we’re blessed with a ribbon of sugar-white shores. While we all know it’s there, just how much do you take advantage of this glorious stretch of coast?

Why not consider a cheap and hassle-free getaway by booking your accommodation here? You’ll find everything from resorts to backpackers, bed and breakfasts to hotels. And when it comes to filling your days, the choices are quite simply enormous.

Perhaps start the day with a lazy breakfast at a trendy Cottesloe cafe before going for a dip here or City Beach. Join the surfers at Scarborough or Trigg Beach or snorkel at places like Mettman’s Pool in the Marmion Marine Park. Lunch at Sorrento Quay or Mindarie Quay, doze in the shade of a tree in a coastal park and then stroll along the beach at sunset, watching the sky turn a flame with pinks.

Sorrento is earning a whole new name for itself, thanks to a $30 million new development featuring a new bridge and boardwalk, 19 new boat pens, a newly landscaped northern barbecue area, a reconfigured Rottnest Island Ferry terminal, a whole host of stylish new restaurants and an enormous, swanky new bar and restaurant overlooking the water.

Thanks to this development, you can now stroll across the water from the Hillarys Boat Harbour (which is home to the fascinating Naturaliste Marine Discover Centre) to Sorrento Quay, home to the Aquarium of WA (AQWA) as well as a riot of restaurants and resort shopping.

Further north, Mindarie is also emerging as a jewel in the Perth coastal crown. This swanky new area is home to an award-winning microbrewery, which also offers entertainment and meals, as well as a bar and cafe – all clustered around the waters of the marina.

The microbrewery often features live entertainment in its beer garden and is always producing new brews in a huge variety of flavours.
