Pinjarra Weir
A few metres upstream of the bridge is the weir. Built in 1895, it was designed to prevent the tidal flow of water upstream, so that townspeople, orchardists and the railway could use the fresh water of the Murray River. Concrete buttresses for mounting a pump to lift water to the station for the steam trains are still visible on the eastern bank.
Suspension Bridge
The Suspension Bridge across the beautiful Murray River is one of Pinjarra’s most popular tourist attractions, the river banks at either end being attractively landscaped and offering seating, barbecue facilities. The bridge was constructed by the Australian Army’s 22 Construction Squadron as a training exercise, utilising materials provided by Alcoa of Australia. The Shire of Murray had for many years pursued the vision that a footbridge, spanning the Murray River could be achieved. In 1999 the stabilising blocks on each end of the bridge became a community art project for the town. The art work is made out of small pieces of mosaic tiles and consists of four themes. On the western side of the river are Youth of Pinjarra and Pioneer/Heritage Families and on the eastern side of the river are Railway/Forest and Aboriginal.
