Jarrahdale Walking Trails Enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Jarrah forest while walking along the Darling Scarp. More Information.. |
Serpentine Jarrahdale is a thriving agricultural and rural district located approximately one hours' drive south of Perth and includes the towns of Byford, Mundijong, Serpentine and Jarrahdale.
The historic towns of this region are nestled among a brilliant patchwork of tall forests, undulating hills, dams and lush pastures. In springtime, some of Western Australia's finest displays of wildflowers can be found here.
Jarrahdale, where quaint timber cottages and historic buildings line the streets is surrounded by State forest and the Serpentine National Park. Jarrahdale is classified by the National Trust in recognition of its importance as the state’s first timber town, established in 1872.
You can explore much of this naturally rich region on bike and walk trails through the forest and national parks. It really is something to retreat to the serenity of these natural settings, breathe in the fresh forest air and delight in the antics of birds flitting among the branches.
You can also join weekend guided walks between March and October, which start at the Old Jarrahdale Post Office. The more adventurous can set out on a portion of the long distance Munda Biddi Mountain Bike Trail, stretching across scenic countryside from Jarrahdale to Dwellingup.
There are also bridle paths at Landford Park for horse riders and the popular Tumbulgum Farm for a real insight into farm life. This farm on the South West Highway to Mundijong gives visitors a taste of life on an Australian farm, with working sheep dogs, whip cracking, cow milking, Aboriginal dance, didgeridoo playing, boomerang and spear throwing all on show.
Alternatively, soak up the character of this charming region at the country markets, held in Jarrahdale and Mundijong every month. Jarrahdale also hosts the annual "must see" log chop event in October every year.
