Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island located just off the coast, combines the ultimate in pristine natural environment, chilled out holiday atmosphere and seaside village charm.

Here, you’re in another world – a world where the skies are alive with the dance of seabirds, the sparkling ocean harbours a spectacular profusion of fish life and the landscape is dotted with indigenous flora and fauna, beautiful beaches and secluded bays.

You can join this laid back world by embarking on a ferry from Fremantle, Hillary’s Boat Harbour or Perth City. You may also choose to set to the skies on a short flight there, taking in the brilliant blues and greens of the ocean on your journey.

Once you arrive, you’ll quickly notice the refreshing quietness of this carefully protected island. On Rottnest, cars are replaced with the silent pedal of bicycles and hiring a bike is the best way to explore the island. Set out on one of the many bike paths to discover the dozens of hidden bays. Just 11 kms long and 4.5 kms wide, the island is easy to circumnavigate.

You may choose to open your eyes to the wonders of WA’s marine environment by hiring a snorkel and mask and exploring the magic of Rottnest’s underwater world. Surf the waves is very popular or drop a line for some of Rottnest’s ocean delicacies?

You may even be lucky enough to spot humpback whales on their annual migration, sea lions ducking and diving in the waves or bottlenose dolphins swimming through the waters and occasionally leaping skyward in what appears to be wonderfully frivolous play.

Land lovers are also well catered to with a golf course and an excellent selection of bike and walk trails. Or join one of the many free guided tours of the island to learn about its fascinating history and natural environment.
