Swan River

The sparkling waters of the Swan River sweep from the hills east of Perth, through the heart of the city and into the pristine waters of the Indian Ocean, forming a stunning setting for the city and its surrounds.

The river’s beauty is intensified by the backdrop of skyscrapers in the city, shining bright against a brilliant blue Perth sky, and the sweeping parkland which lines much of its banks.

So why not get out and discover this natural beauty for yourself? You could join the colourful flotillas of boats by hiring a sail boat and cruising the Swan’s tranquil waters.

Or what about a picnic on the foreshore, watching the riot of activity on the waters during the day or admiring the sun set as the city lights dance upon the water in stunning reflections at night?

For the more energetic, try walking, jogging or hiring a bike to enjoy some of the 19 kilometres of foot and cycles paths lining the river banks. Explore the river waters in any way that takes your fancy – how about a canoe, catamaran, sailboard or jet ski? Even the skies above the river are alive with the colour of parasails or kite surfing sails – join in and experience it for yourself.

You can also choose to experience the Swan’s wonders aboard one of the incredible selection of river cruises available – wine cruises to vineyards in the Swan Valley, lunch & dinner cruises, short scenic cruises - the list goes on and on.

From Barrack Street Jetties in the city, you can even set out on ferry or boat for Perth Zoo, the Swan ValleyFremantle or Rottnest Island by cruising upstream or downstream along the Swan’s meandering waters.
